Two years. It's been two years since the death of her parents from a fatal illness. Masu would come to the graveyard every year on the day her parents died to visit their grave. The skies were dark, and light showers would pour from the sky, as Masu was already in front of the tombstones with her parents' names carved into them. She was on both knees with both hands on her thighs with her head bowed down. Her left eye was closed as she released a heavy sigh. Truth be told, she knew her parents' death would arrive. It was the fact that it happened was what made her traumatized.
Ever since the incident occurred, Masu was as if she were an insomniac. She would have nightmares, all connecting to guilt that Masu shouldn't even feel. She felt as if she didn't take care of her parents enough for them to stay alive. She felt as if she were too careless, despite not realizing the enormous amount of effort she's done to make sure her parents were alive and well. Masu had a habit of putting herself down to harshly and always taking the blame for things that wasn't her fault. At this point in time she was used to her insomniac ways. Though, she isn't exactly an insomniac since recently she was able to get only minutes of sleep.
Masu's left eye opened as she picked her head up. A grim expression took over her face as she stared at the tombstones. Her hair was already drenched from the light showers pouring in along with her bow, but she never seemed to care. Not at the moment at least. "Where..." She muttered to herself. "Where have I gone wrong? Where have we gone wrong? She continued as another heavy sigh escaped from her lips.
If only she could go back in time to see where she really did went wrong. If only she could...

The clock that struck midnight marks this very day two years; two years since the Shodai Raikage, Kaito Yamamoto has been murdered, allegedly by the former ANBU captain, Yusuke. Yes, it was a tragic moment that day. The man had no control of himself. In just a matter of seconds, he slung a kunai to the center of his skull then proceeded to attack Mayu. She was blessed for the bodyguards to barge into the scene and caught the culprit red handed. Luckily enough Mayu was already appointed as the next Raikage, and had ordered a public execution on the man. She had made this day a day to honor the Shodai Raikage and his remarkable leadership for the village. Kaito Yamamoto was a great man, a great man who was respected and looked up to.
The only difference is that Yusuke wasn't the culprit of Yamamoto's murder.
Mayu was a calculative woman. She knew when it was time to advance her plans, even if it took years to accomplish it. All that was needed was a stab through the head and a stab on her side to complete the act to cause enough disturbance for the bodyguards to enter and notice that Yusuke was the only one unharmed compared to the injured Mayu and now deceased Shodai Raikage. She knew her plan worked, because no one would suspect anything; her motives, her plans, everything. All it took was for a random person, anyone, the Raikage, and Mayu herself alone in one room and two kunai ready for action.
But what brought her here in the village's graveyard? Only to visit the Shodai Raikage's grave, of course. Well, that wasn't entirely the case, but it was apart of it. This was her first time entering into the graveyard to see so many tombstones all over the area. There were other names that Mayu was able to recognize, many in which the murders were committed when Mayu was a young kunoichi. Remorse was nonexistent nor did she had any plans to give prayers to those she killed. Rather, she would spit, or even piss on the grounds they were buried in. Why? Because they've deserved every single second of it.
Mayu strolled along the wet grounds with a long white jacket and her umbrella to shield her from the rain, not to also to forget her signature hat which held a blue flower on top. A blank expression was glued onto the woman's face. The graveyard was no place to show such extreme emotions or remorse, she would say to herself. At least, in a place where you're surrounded by people you never knew nor people you wished would've died sooner. The Shodai Raikage was one of them. If only she was able to kill him earlier in the years, but she's more or less later that she was able to receive the end goal of her plans.
The Raikage's vibrant blue eyes would slide over to another woman was already in front of two tombstones, on her knees and staring into the names that were written on the stones. One of Mayu's eyebrows rose out of interest as she decided to casually waltz forwards behind said woman. Judging by the black bow and the hair that was not only released, but also soaked by the rain, it wasn't hard to identify who was in front of the tombstones. Her silhouette, her outfit, her hair, everything. Mayu was well aware. It was her first time seeing the woman in the graveyard, but she was well aware of why she visited here.
Already behind the white-haired woman, she then stood next to her with the large umbrella now hovering over the other woman, who was now protected from the name. Not even a greeting nor announcement of her presence would try to lighten up the mood. In a moment like this, there was no room for any lukewarm attempts of brightening the mood. It was out of place.
Mayu's deadpan eyes stared at the tombstones to read their names. "Kasai Miku and Kasai Hayato." She read the names out loud. Silence would then arise before the Raikage spoke again. "What led to their death?"

Masu felt the rain stop pouring onto her, yet it continued to do so everywhere else. It wasn't until she heard a voice right next to her. At that moment, she was able to recognize the feminine voice in only a matter of seconds as it read her deceased parents' names on the tombstones. However, she didn't bother making eye contact with the woman. Usually she would great her boss despite the circumstance she was in right now. Her mind was more on the tombstones than on the parents. Hopefully Mayu wouldn't take this the wrong way and see this as disrespect. Masu did inform the Raikage as to coming here every year on the day of her parents' death, so she could only hope some sympathy could be given. As the Raikage stood silent alongside Masu, she continued to speak.
"What led to their death?"
Now it was Masu's turn to go silence as she was asked such a question. Masu mentioned that her parents died, but never mentioned why. You would've thought after two years of working together they should know everything about each other. That wasn't the case. Both Mayu and Masu had full intentions of working together professionally rather than exploring the casual life with each other and they know it. It was as if they understood what would tick them off without even telling each other. It was interesting, to say the least.
"They were ill for a while." Masu delivered her response, her eyes still on the stones. "They've been like that when I was just an academy student. It was to the point where they were bedridden." Her voice was low, but still had volume for the Raikage to hear. "I never understood why they were so ill. We were too poor to get any healthcare so I was the one that ended up being the provider. It was when I became an elite two years ago that they've passed away. I felt as if it were my fault for not trying hard enough. It's tough to sleep these days." She explained.
Silence returned, unless of course the Raikage had anything to say. But on the subject of the Raikage...
"What brings you here in the graveyard?" Masu asked, still avoiding eye contact with the Raikage.

Mayu was only returned nothing but the sound of rain flying down and crashing against the ground. It was understandable, but duly noted. It was then that Masu had decided to explained what happened to her parents, which was nothing more than an illness fatal enough to kill them. The flower-eyed girl even went far as to blame herself for their death. Poor thing. And to top it all off, Masu even had to play provider for her parents as a every young child. Mayu could never imagine herself in that situation, only because she's never been in a situation like that.
The woman softly sighed as she bent her knees to be on a similar level with Masu. One hand went on the farther shoulder of Masu and pulled her in for a side hug. Of course, eye contact was still yet to be achieved from these two. It was an attempt for comfort, although something like this wouldn't do something significant other than the pure fact that she cares. She may be sour on the outside, but on the inside she's willing to empathize, even if she hasn't experience the situation.
Mayu breathed in, letting out a quick sigh before she spoke. "Both of my parents are alive," Which wasn't exactly the best phrase to put it at first. "but my mother left me when I was just an infant. I may not be able to know what it's like for a parent of mine to lose their life, but I do know what it's like for a parent to leave you... in a world that is slowly going into a calamitous state." She purred to the woman as the grip on Masu's shoulder would tighten a little. War would soon purge into the world and Mayu knows it.
The other woman then proceeded to ask what the Raikage herself was doing in the graveyard. "I was on my way to the Shodai Raikage's tombstone. Oddly enough, today marks the second year since his death. But then I saw you, so I thought I would check up on you for a bit before I go over to his tombstone." She informed.
"Would you like to join me after you've done your business here? You don't have to if you don't want to."

ENTER SOME LYRICS OR SOME SHIT HERE. ANYTHING YOU WANT. ONLY TWO LINES. "...Thank you, Lady Raikage. I do appreciate the sympathy... however, I don't need it. It's a little too late for that, anyway." Masu sighed. She didn't hate it, but sympathy wasn't something she wanted, nor pity. Still, at least the Raikage cared but entirely sensitive at the same time. Mayu decided to call out the fact that her parents were still alive, but only one of them left. "Though, I wouldn't put a parent leaving you versus parents dying on the same pedestal." Masu informed with a soft tone. After a comment like that, she wanted no sympathy whatsoever with this woman.
Masu went silent only for a few seconds while the Raikage offered the flower eyed woman to join her in visiting the Shodaime Raikage's grave. They way she asked her question, it felt even more insensitive than before. It was as if she had no true care about Masu's pain, as if the former Raikage was the better person for her to worry about. "After you've finished your business here", she said. Disappointing. She wanted to say something to the other woman for being insensitive about her parents, right in front of their damn graves.
But what she wanted to do was the opposite of what she actually did.
"...Of course, Lady Raikage. She whispered her response, but loud enough for her boss to hear. She never knew Mayu visits to Kaito Yamamoto's grave every year. If she did, then Masu would've spotted her. What was interesting was that this also marks the second year her parents died. Interesting.
Getting up on her knees, she then dusted the dirt on her knees, waiting for the woman to lead the way.

Mayu removed her hand from the woman's shoulder as she got up with her, still having the umbrella over her her and Masu. "Perfect." She said. Once Masu was up, the Raikage would then motion herself away from Masu's parents' graves. Mayu managed to run herself into the other white haired woman, so Mayu figured that she could drag someone else on the trip.
"Kaito Yamamoto." Mayu cooed the name. "He was a great man, if I do say so myself. His leadership abilities were questionable, but nonetheless he was someone who could be trusted and be seen as a role model." Mayu explained. What she was saying was nothing but lies. She never saw him as a great leader. He was ineffective as leader. He didn't know how to run a village the way Mayu had in mind.
"It's a shame that his own ANBU Captain decided to out of nowhere murder the man. He didn't deserve to be killed so soon at a young age." Mayu sighed, showing some remorse.
