SAITO YOTSUKI
QUOTE/LYRIC HERE
12 | MALE |
GENIN | KUMOGAKURE |
APPEARANCE
Appearance wise, there isn't much to say about Saito. Standing in at only 4' 10" (fairly average for his demographic) and weighing in at 78 lbs, Saito is on the skinny side if not significantly smaller than most of the adult population - given his age, however, that's only to be expected. Otherwise the trend of being average as far as appearance is concerned carries through, the boy's dark hair, dark blue eyes and pale skin doing little to set him apart from the crowd. Clothing wise Saito keeps it simple - generic but comfortable pants/shoes (usually some shade of blue or white), a t shirt and a coat for colder areas.
PERSONALITY
Saito, bluntly put, is not at all what many adults typically expect of a boy his age. Articulate and well spoken, it usually becomes quickly apparent that Saito tends to come off as far more mature than he looks. Both wise and intelligent far beyond his years, the boy is smart enough to converse with most adults on nearly an equal level, although whether or not that is a good idea tends to vary from person to person - something else that he understands quite well, and he has long since come to the realization that hiding how much he truly knows and understands can often be the easier choice to work with. While not exactly a quiet individual - as his thoughts have slipped past his mental filter to be spoken aloud on more than one occasion - he's also learned that keeping his mouth shut and to himself to simply watch from the sidelines is also the far smarter option sometimes, if admittedly not the easier one. As a result of the later bit, though, Saito's learned to be incredibly observant and perceptive, something that's only helped by the fact that few people tend to ever pay attention to a ten year old - if someone doesn't understand what you're talking about, no reason to hide it, right? Unfortunately, this has resulted in a mixture of conflicting views for Saito. He knows that the world isn't necessarily a happy place. He can read, he can listen, and by extension he tends to understand most of what is said and written - if it makes the news, he's probably going to learn about it.
That said, this is still somewhat tempered by his youth, and in more than one way Saito is lost with no clear path forward in life. For all of the jaded cynicism and violence that the world seems to want him to embrace there is still a part of Saito that is an idealist, able embrace the views of his late father and to see the world not as it is but what it can be. More than anything else, it's often this aspect of his personality that repeatedly gets him into trouble, along with his often stubborn and independent attitude, two traits that tend to make it incredibly difficult to fit in with others his age.
SHINOBI INFORMATION
Position: Genin
Chakra Natures: Suiton
Specialties:
Chakra Control: Naturally intuitive, intelligent and - above all - hard working, Saito spent his years in the Academy honing the one talent he had. Far beyond most other genin his age in regards to chakra control, the Yotsuki has learned how to get the most bang for his buck when it comes to ninjutsu. Able to cast most techniques for the bare minimum without any loss in power, Saito is able to stretch his chakra quite a bit by extension granting the illusion that his average chakra reserves are much, much greater than most would expect. Layering, combining and micromanaging multiple different techniques is likewise more a matter of focus than difficulty for the young shinobi, allowing a great degree of tactical flexibility on the field.

HISTORY
Saito's life story isn't a particularly special one - and, had one or two seemingly innocuous events not taken place in his life, it's unlikely that it ever would have been.
Born in Kumogakure, Saito's family was a typical enough one despite his heritage. With an older sister ahead of him by six years, the professions of their mother and father - that of a high ranking Jonin and the Raikage himself - kept the family living in relative safety and comfort to say the least. While the father wasn't often home and the responsibilities of work kept their mother fairly busy, the presence of Saito's older sister ensured that he was never truly alone, at home or otherwise. At least for the first several years.
With the father's job ensuring that the village as whole demanded much of his attention and their mother away for weeks at a time, stress would begin to build under the surface for nearly everyone in the family. Five years old at the time himself having just entered the Academy and with his sister eleven, the older sibling would begin to harbor growing resentment for their parents over a number of social pressures and expectations. Something that Saito would eventually come to understand himself, as people tended to hold you to certain standards depending on your pedigree in the world - it was just how culture worked in the Hidden Villages. That problem, however, carried over to the entire family and their mother as well. As a result they rarely saw each other as time went on, and while married for several years before Saito's birth the two had effectively become strangers to one another.
As things began to drag on over the following months the decision would eventually be made by both parents to divorce. No ill will existed between the two parents, it was agreed that both needed a fresh start and neither were content with their marriage anymore. In the end it was decided that Kaito, their father, would have formal custody of both children due to both his position as Raikage and the Yostugi clan's leader allowing him to better provide for them, although with the understanding that both parents would be able to see them. Cracks would further begin to form in the family as Saito's sister protested the arrangement - while understanding of the reasoning behind it, the girl had nevertheless fostered a deeper bond with her mother than her father.
Seven years old by this point, it would also be around the time that the boy would begin to awaken in an intellectual sense, and begin to see the world around him from a much more mature standpoint. It would also be at this point that Saito would begin to understand just how much they had been shielded from the world during their younger years, and how much was wrong with it, how much things beyond the walls of Kumogakure conflicted with the ideals that their father tried to instill in both children, and how hard it was to hold onto those ideals even when dealing with their own domestic issues within the village. More than that, just how hard Kaito was working to maintain a delicate balancing act. Despite being Raikage the man was effectively a single father by that point, and he had genuinely loved their mother with every fiber of his being, even after the divorce - he recognized what had led to it, though, and had sworn not to let a similar divide form between him and his children, to let work come before family while maintaining those professional responsibilities. While any possibility of another relationship was effectively killed by both the presence of his children and the demands of his job Kaito did not resent that - instead, he simply resolved to do better and not repeat the mistakes of the past.
Due to this resolution the next two years would result in the father and children growing closer than they ever had before. Just as he provided for them Saito would do what little he could to try and ease that burden as his older sister was no longer around to do the same, having effectively entered the village's military with the successful passing of her Chunin Exams. Things would only continue to get harder as their father's age and the stress of his careful balancing act would begin to manifest - he hadn't exactly been as young as most men traditionally were when Saito and his sister had been born, and those two factors would begin to result in subtle but increasingly serious health complications. As Raikage, however, Kaito's slow but steady decline in health wasn't something that could be publicly known, nor something that he wanted his family aware of at home.
Shortly after turning nine years old it would finally culminate as a minor stroke. While kept quiet and handled only by those closest to the Raikage to prevent knews of the incident from reaching the public it didn't change that the event would have a monumental impact on Saito's life. While it was never stated he understood full well that he shared a certain degree of responsibility in what had transpired as well as how things had gotten to that point to begin with. When offered the choice of leaving to live with his mother for the time that the man would spend recovering in his home Saito would refuse, instead electing to stay at there until it was clear that his mother would eventually begin a full recovery - what came after that point, however, was something of a crossroads.
While Saito understood that guilt was driving much of his thoughts, the boy wasn't entirely able to deny the points that those feelings brought up. Yes, age was a convenient thing to blame but a fair portion of what had led up to the incident fell onto his shoulders as well, their father's decisions and own will aside. His presence had gotten in the way of his father's attempts to move on past his previous marriage. It was because of him and his sister that the man felt compelled to try and balance several responsibilities at once, more than most realistically could. He'd gotten lucky with the stroke, terrible as it way to say - lucky that not only had it failed to kill him but hadn't outwardly robbed the man of any physical or mental ability beyond a temporary tremor in his hands.
With the weeks dragging on through his father's rehabilitation, Saito would begin to consider ways of eliminating the problem - because it would happen again. His father was just as stubborn as he was, and left to his own devices he wouldn't take the health scare as a warning that things needed to change. At only eleven years old, however, Saito's only real options weren't options at all - so instead he buried himself in his studies at the Academy. It was only a temporary escape and a way to explain needing a bit of space so Kaito could and would focus on his own health alongside work, but it only needed to last for so long. Saito had always done well in his studies to begin with, far more intelligent and intuitive than most his age, and once he graduated from the Academy the new training period of a genin would take much of the stress off the older man - both of them would be too busy to see much of each other beyond that point, much as it pained Saito to realize that.
Days would drag on into weeks, weeks into months, and just as graduation began to drag within a comprehensible period of time the world would upend itself.
At first Saito wasn't sure what to believe - just not the narrative that had been released to the public. It had only been a handful of times, but he'd met his uncle. Spent enough time with the man to know that he and Kaito had gotten along quite well, and that both had shared much of the Raikage's vision for a better, more peaceful and more prosperous village. The idea that the shinobi had killed his brother was unthinkable. None of it made any sense, and for a period following the development Saito would effectively retreat from the world - moved from the house he'd grown up in to live with his mother, it was easier to shut down and focus on what was in front of him than dwell on what had happened. Graduation was a largely empty affair, devoid of much meaning beyond the fact that his days would no longer be spent within its halls. It wasn't until weeks later that Saito began to cope, and finally begin to try and move forward with his life again.
RP SAMPLE
As the seconds slowly continued to tick by into minutes and the end of the first hour started to approach Izumi did little to change the current dynamic of the room. All things considered, quiet was generally preferable to most alternatives and she was quite comfortable sitting on the tatami mat. It wasn't often that she was able to simply relax and let her mind wander, and despite the earlier irritation with the overall circumstances surrounding the "why" of their visit it wasn't turning out to be all that unpleasant of an experience. As far as Izumi herself was concerned, anyways.
While she wasn't able to really get much of a read on Kaede - particularly with her eyes closed - there was a general air of impatience in the room, but then again that might not have been the other woman at all. While he tended to remain silent for the vast majority of the time Izumi had always been aware of Saiken to some extent since their first conversation during her genin years. His mood, his attitude, opinions on current conversations, his emotions to some extent just as much as Izumi suspected he was of her's. From what little she knew of him patience wasn't one of his strong points, although she could hardly blame the Biju in that regard if all he knew of the outside world was what she herself did. Point being, though, that it wasn't always easy to discern where certain things came from. It was much as someone could sense outright anger from another without speaking to them, and at times difficult to tell if it was from Saiken she felt such things or another person in the room.
Not that it really mattered, especially after the door to their room slid aside to reveal one of the Lord's retainers.
"We apologize for the wait, the Lord is able to see you now."
Shifting her neck a bit with a quiet pop as joints made stiff from the better part of an hour spent resting against a wall slid back into the proper place, Izumi stood as readily as one might've expected from a person who'd been wide awake. Arms still stuffed into their opposite sleeves and folded in front of her, however, the kunoichi would pause by the door, wordlessly waiting for the other woman in the room to stand up and take the lead. Speaking wasn't really necessary - the expression on Izumi's face, while, neutral and not disrespectful, made her feelings fairly obvious. Kaede was the one in charge and the one who'd made the call to take this detour, she'd be the one at the lead and doing the talking. Izumi was perfectly content to remain in the background and the less attention drawn to her, the better. At least for now. If Kaede wanted something done that required a heavier hand or just straight up violence then that'd be a different story entirely, and likely a request that Izumi would be more than happy to see to.
