Kaoru Maeda
QUOTE/LYRIC HERE
15 | Female |
Genin | Konoha |
APPEARANCE
She's got a heart shaped face and warm brown eyes. She's not exceptionally pretty, but she's not average, either, falling somewhere in between on the range of "cute". Her soft face is generally fairly expressive, though she's learning to be able to hide these expressions as a shinobi. Her skin has a warm tone, and maybe because of, or in spite of this, she always seems to be in a perpetual state of blushing, whether she is or not. She's got asymmetrical mostly shoulder length chestnut brown hair that tends to run a little bit wild on the longer side.
She stands at 5 foot 1, weighing in at 115 pounds. She looks quite slim, but underneath she is quite toned thanks to her Genin training, possessing a strength larger than her size, but no more than other shinobi of her own age and same amount of training. She hopes she'll continue growing, but she hasn't gained an inch since she was 13. Despite being thing, she still has a woman's body. Her hips are on the wider side, while she has B cups for her chest.
She will often wear civilian clothes in the village, preferring to go for the traditional kimono or yukata as opposed to shirts and pants. They're usually bright and floral, as she saves darker colors like dark purples and blues for more formal occasions. When training or on a mission, she wears a tight pair of fishnet shorts and 3/3 sleeved top. Over this she wears short spandex like grey shorts and a dark blue t shirt of similar material. Over that she'll often wear her shinobi vest and/or a utility belt slung across her hips. Her shinobi headband is usually tied high on her right thigh, or on her left arm in civilian clothes.
PERSONALITY
Softspoken
She's shy. Kaoru doesn't talk very much, usually preferring to go along with whatever her friends or teammates decide. If she's asked, she'll put her suggestion or idea forward quietly but confidently, but if its not chosen she won't push it. The only time she will is if she knows something that they've missed, or if she's incredibly sure of something and can't see a different way in a situation. When speaking in a conversation, she's quiet, but the suredness with which she speaks is usually enough to make others listen as if she were in fact yelling calmly.
Observant
As she doesn't speak much, Kaoru has learned to pay attention to things around her. She might notice something her teammate might not, depending on their level of observance. She will spot a little more than the average Genin, though she's still likely to miss things at her level. She is good at noticing little tells in people however. Things that show whether someone might be lying, or nervous, or uncomfortable and trying to hide it. This helps to make her an excellent tactician also. She sees the little quirks and extras that will make for a perfect trap, being able to figure out how easily someone will fall for a genjutsu and how long they're likely to stay in it for.
Jealous
This often comes from being so shy and quiet. As much as she tries not to, she envies those who can be loud and silly and don't seem to have a care in the world about what others think about her. She also tends to get kind of jealous of couples. She's fifteen and hasn't experienced any romantic situations, even though many of her friends have, and she envies them for it.
Timid
She's shy, but this can lead into more extremes than just being quiet. When faced with a confrontation of the emotional kind, she's a stuttering, stammering mess. She shrinks away and hides, tending to try to avoid situations like that whenever she can. If she's close to the individual, this seems to go away, unless its anger. She has a habit of flinching away from fury directed at her whether she knows if the person will hurt her or not. She is trying to overcome it, but it won't likely happen for several more years.
Patient
She has quite a bit of patience, especially for someone her age. She has the ability to do what many people don't. Put up with stupid or difficult people for long periods of time without going utterly insane. She'll likely come out of it with a headache or have all her day's patience used up if she's around them for too long. And of course she has her limits like any other normal human being. Its just that hers are bigger than most. This is also really helpful when she's around children. She adores them, but they can be utterly exhausting. For children, unless they're legitimate problem children, she has seemingly endless patience.
Hard Working
Much in part to her quiet nature, Kaoru is a hard worker. She believes in earning what you get, and tries to live by that. That doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy being treated sometimes, but she'll always try to treat the individual back later on. She doesn't like taking shortcuts unless absolutely necessary, as she's found they often result in disaster. Or at the very least embarrassment for the individual taking said shortcut, or any that get caught up in said individual's antics.

HISTORY
Kaoru was born 15 years ago to a pair of retired shinobi. Her father had worked for the Uchiha when he was younger as one of their hired help, having stayed as a Chuunin even though he'd grown older. He was content to stay in the village and not be exceptional. Her mother, on the other hand, had been promoted to Jounin very shortly after becoming a Chuunin. She was a combat medical shinobi, using the skills she had learned as a regular medical shinobi quite often out in the field with her team, and even going so far as to alter them and create new ones to fight her enemies with. The invention of these techniques had caught the attention of the Hokage and quickly got her her promotion. They'd met when one day her mother had been called to the Uchiha estate to tend to someone who refused to leave even though they were ill. It was love at first sight for them, and they quickly became a couple at age 22. When both of them had reached the ripe old age of 33, they decided to retire. Shinobi didn't often live so long out in the field, and they wanted to settle down, though her Mother was the only one that spent any time out in the field.
Two years after they were married they had their daughter, Kaoru. Both of them wanted her to become a proud shinobi just like both of them, so they'd enrolled her in the academy. Even when she was a toddler, Kaoru was quiet. She barely cried as a baby, and preferred to play simply by herself. Her parents worried at first that she was antisocial, and they asked her first year academy teacher to watch her for anything unusual. They were very happy when he said he didn't believe anything was wrong with her. She got along with the other students, and even had friends, even though she was quiet. He'd remarked on her ability to tell when something was wrong, as well. Whether one of her classmates was feeling unwell, or she noticed a mistake or something out of place that the other children missed. He had grinned and had said it must have come from her mother, being who she was.
Having their fears relieved, Kaoru's parents backed off. They had been overly protective and worried for her until the end of her first year when, upon graduation, they saw her run off happily with some of her friends to play. To hear it was one thing, but to see it was another entirely.
She remained a quiet, observant child growing up. She never failed in her studies, always taking the extra time if she needed it to learn that little detail that would make or break the situation. She didn't always make top of the class over her academy years, but she certainly graduated as it. She never excelled at anything in particular during her academy years, not really discovering it until she became a Genin.
Her quietness never changed even when she got assigned to her team. Rather, her observational skills became invaluable for their genin missions. She'd always spot the cat first, or see the trap their sensei laid out to try to trick them, and would help try to teach her teammates to be as observant. Her true passion came out, however, when her sensei showed them Genjutsu. There was something about it that intrigued her like nothing else had. Sure, she always loved learning, but this was more. She, quite out of character for her, practically begged her sensei to teach her more in depth about Genjutsu. He'd noticed her quietness, and this sudden lack of it was surprising, but also very encouraging. He began to teach her the complexities of Genjutsu and why it did what it did. More than you would learn in the academy. He was even starting to show her, by her second year as a genin, how to start making her own jutsu, both genjutsu and elemental. By her third year she had a small handful of jutsu that she'd created with his help. Her mother, being who she was, was incredibly proud of this achievement, claiming she was following in her footsteps even if she wasn't a combat medic.
RP SAMPLE
Four days now she'd been sick. Honoka was stuck in bed for four days, feeling like utter garbage. She wondered perhaps if this was payback for dumping the champagne on that sewage woman at the gala, or if she'd just been working too hard lately. Either way.
She'd had to call in an assistant. She really should hire a full time one, she thought. Her ranch was getting big enough she could pay them a wage, and Arceus knew she needed help at this point. Not that she'd likely admit it aloud, but the idea of a ranch hand or something more than a few Pokemon certainly appealed to her. Maybe she'd put an ad out after she was well again.
She coughed, the sound wrenching from her lungs, causing her to bend upward at the waist into a half sitting position. By Arceus did she ever hate being sick. And it was more than a day or two this time. She supposed, what with the chilly weather and the kids that were rampant in Alterna, that it was no surprise she had gotten sick. She'd been spending many days out in the market in the morning, trying to sell eggs that had yet to hatch or buying groceries or flowers for her mother, or just browsing the stalls to see if anyone had anything new. Sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't.
She flopped back into her pillow again, the fit of coughing finished, and groaned. Her throat hurt, her head hurt, her chest hurt. Everything hurt, and she couldn't bear more than a cup of broth at a time without it coming back up. A flu, she supposed. Whatever it was she wanted it to be over. Yeah, she was definitely going to look into getting an assistant for the farm. Maybe two. She couldn't travel to clients who needed her to like this, or when the ranch got very busy with rescues or large batches of hatchlings.
She groaned again and rolled onto her side, curling up, tugging the big fluffy comforter with her. She'd hire someone later. For now, she was grateful for the nurse her mother had hired for her, and grabbed the mug she had left on her nightstand for the blonde. It was still steaming hot, which was perfect. She downed the broth as quickly as she dared, curling up once again to rest. Sleep would do her good.
